Someone's Past

Moving to urban areas has left deserted buildings scattered across Ostrobothnia. Because of this more and more municipalities in Finland are being forced to merge or in worst cases they disappear totally.

I have chosen to move from a larger city called Espoo to a cabin in the countryside near the town of Pietarsaari. By doing so I have realized my indulgence for public transport - a luxury I can wean myself from.

As a photographer, I have arrived to every place with respect. The buildings are certainly abandoned, but there may still be things of value, therefore I’ve decided to document these places.

How did it come to this?

We catch a glimpse of a stranger's past.

It’s a fascinating and melancholic experience.

Melancholy of the things left behind

and what could have been.

How did it come to this?
